The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person, are held on Treaty One lands. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Inuit, Metis, and First Nations Peoples and their cultures and rights.
We recognize that the clean water we are drinking is sourced from the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.
New Venue Trial Run A Success
The September 18th meeting trial run to determine the suitability of this location was a success. After a bit of rearranging the tables and figuring out the audio/visual hook-up for the big screen smart TV, we were under way.
As promised, we were given a choice of two menu items (with side), coffee, soft drink, & water for an "all in" price of $25.00. With no minimums and no cost subsidy as we were paying at the Birchwood, the club saved $200 just on today's meeting.
The food and service was good, the room size and A/V works for our group and so the decision was made to consider Smitty's Westwood our new home!
No word yet if anyone actually showed up at the Birchwood.

As today was a trial run of a new venue, our "program" was a test of the Audio/Visual at the new location. President Bob selected a Rotary video discussing the ideals of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in Rotary, featuring Brian Rusch.

Reminder for volunteers for AGAPE - Sept 25

Westminster Housing - upcoming projects: fencing, walkway, planting ... volunteers welcome for all these projects. Note: your Board held it's September Board Meeting at 189 Spence in the outdoor garden area. Well done Rotary on transforming this area into a comfortable, inviting area for tenants!
Paul Harris Award
The Board has recommended an Honourary Paul Harris Award for Jim Step of AGAPE Table. The award will be presented at a dinner on October 30. The dinner is being held in conjunction with other Rotary Clubs to honour all the Paul Harris Award recipients. Dinner cost is $60 and the RCWW will subsidize the meal cost to the tune of $20, making your cost $40. Please contact Kelly Ryback if you are interested in attending.
Golden Rainbow Fund - Please Act Now!
Last few days to make a contribution to the Golden Rainbow Fund before the fund's September 30 year end. The Winnipeg Foundation matches every $9 contributed with $1. That's an 11.11% return.
Every contribution makes a difference. $20, $50 or more helps us sustain and GROW our projects. Consider a monthly donation.
We're now pretty comfortable with the revitalized direction of our communications and image (WestWind, RCWW website and social media). This, together with a very impressive, renewed enthusiasm displayed by our current membership for hands-on projects in the community, we think the time is right to begin a more aggressive recruitment strategy. Beginning in mid October, we will be launching a social media and print media campaign to attract new members to RCWW.
We are also very keen on bringing back former Winnipeg West members. There's a new vibe in the Club and we'd love to welcome thme back. While we want to see some former member's faces as much as possible, it's really their skills, desire to make a difference, and fellowship that we desire the most.
As an incentive to any new or returning members, we're offering a one time $100 signing bonus that can be applied against your very modest membership fees.
With fewer in person meetings, informal fellowship lunches, no attendance requirements, and a revitalized hands-on attitude, it's easier and more rewarding than ever to be a member of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg West.
Family of Rotary
We would like to expand the "Family of Rotary". A really good way is to increase the distribution list of our newsletter, the WestWind. Please provide the editor with one, two or more names and email addresses of your spouse/partner, children, friends, associates, target new members etc. to be added to our communications distribution list.
