The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West recently sponsored a local student to participate in the Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout’s “INTERNATIONAL WILDERNESS CANOE CAMP”.
Caleb Chapnick returned from this exciting adventure and spoke to our Club on August 21st of his adventures showing several slides and said that the group of 16 met in Sioux Lookout to begin a canoe trip of 160 kilometers. The group consisted of a number of international exchange students coming from, Mexico, Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Taiwan, Spain and the Czech Republic.
The group met for 3 days training before they set out by bus to their launching point. The trip was on waterways traditionally used by the indigenous peoples of the area. They spent 8 to 9 hours a day paddling and portaging and there were many grueling but enjoyable days.
Another example of how the Rotary Club of Winnipeg West supports and encourages growth and leadership skills in our youth.
