The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person, are held on Treaty One lands. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Inuit, Metis, and First Nations Peoples and their cultures and rights.
We recognize that the clean water we are drinking is sourced from the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation on Treaty Three lands.

October 1 Program
Our speaker today was Patty Mainville, the Executive Director of Rossbrook House.
Rossbrook House was established in 1976 by a group of Catholic nuns. The City gave the group a church at the corner of Ross & Sherbrook where they established a drop in centre. Their mission statement is “No child that does not want to be alone should never have to be”.
Rossbrook is in partnership with Winnipeg School Division #1 and runs 2 schools within the centre and another a block away. They also run their drop-in centre from 3:30 on and provide a safe place for kids to come up until they are 24.
They provide 3 meals daily and have an open fridge from which children can take food & snacks.
They offer help to children transitioning from CFS care where they are forced to leave at age 18.
95% of their staff are former students or children who received help from the centre. They also offer leadership programs, provide hampers for families, music programs and scholarships & bursaries.
They are open 24/7 and have 3 staff overnight. Their facility is drug and alcohol free.
Joint Meeting With Assiniboine Club - Plan to Attend!
On October 8, we are holding a joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Assiniboine. Both clubs, RCWW & RCWA, will have their own agendas and share the program with our guest speaker - Sue Boreskie - CEO of the Winnipeg Rehfit Centre.
This is an evening dinner meeting. Please plan to attend!
Special Event - October 22 - Honouring George Chapman
On Thursday, October 22 we are honouring our long time friend and fellow Rotarian George Chapman with the dedication of a newly installed park bench in the Assiniboine Forest, south of Grant Ave.
The bench is located approximately 900 meters in from the parking lot at Grant & Chalfont. Park your car and join our group walk or be transported on one of our special surrey bikes (each one carries 6 passengers) piloted & powered by fellow Rotarians.
Alan Goddard will lead the dedication to George. This special project has been in the works for several years in support of the Charleswood Club's stewardship of the Assiniboine Forest. The bench, with its special inscription was recently installed.
Please join us as we honour a great Rotarian.
Time: 11:30 am - meet at the parking lot on Grant & Chalfont
Lunch to follow at our old stomping grounds: Viscount Gort Hotel

Getting Closer to Cashless
Today we introduced two new cashless option to:
pay for internal weekly draws
pay for fines & other fun stuff
It is now possible to show up to a meeting without any cash in your pocket.
Simple & easy. On your smart phone, navigate to our club's website:
Navigate to RCWW Hot Links (on small screen devices like smart phones access the Hot Links by clicking on the three horizontal bars at the top right)
Click on the Hot Links and pay for your lunch. You can also pay for your draw tickets, and pay your fines.
Pleas make an effort to help our club go cashless. It's faster and helps with our banking. All payments are secure and the Zeffy reporting helps make our accounting easier.

Thought(s) For The Day - Bob's Words of Wisdom
The venerable Scottish town planner of the early 19th century, Patrick Geddes, coined the phrase “folk, work, place”. What he wrote about “civics” was that in addressing any problem you must take into account, people’s needs and aspirations, economics, and the environment both natural and man-made. Thus always think of “folk, work, place” in planning and decision making.
