Land Acknowledgement

The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person,  are held on Treaty One lands.  We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Inuit, Metis, and First Nations Peoples and their cultures and rights.

We recognize that the clean water we are drinking is sourced from the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.

Rotary Club of Kerkyra, Corfu Welcomes Bob Foster

Bob and Marusia Foster have been away for the past month visiting the island of Corfu, Ionian Islands - Greece.  With Rotary never far from his thoughts, President Bob visited the Rotary Club of Kerkyra, Corfu and was treated to a great evening.  Here's Bob's report:

"Attended Rotary Club of Kerkyra this evening. Speaker before dinner was some important government person. Then four course formal dinner at 9:00pm. Club has 24 members but several guests tonight because of the speaker. Seated us at dinner with a pretty good English speaker so that was good. All club members are Paul Harris Fellows. Average age about 45, fairly evenly split men women. Meeting was at the Corfu Reading Society, founded in 1836. The building is Venetian dating from about 1770 and beautifully restored. I was given the opportunity to bring greetings from our club."

When asked what the meal cost was, Bob replied:

"I don’t know and I felt it poor form to ask. The waiters dressed in white tie and cutaways probably cost more than we pay in a month. This was I think the most elegant dinner I have ever attended, including the location in a beautifully restored 18th century wealthy Venetian merchant’s home. All suits and ties and classy dresses. This was kind of a special occasion but they really know how to do it up. Makes St. Charles CC look like a poor cousin."

Sound like it might be a bit of a step up from Smitty's 😂

No doubt Bob will be sharing more of his adventures at an upcoming meeting.
