The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person, are held on Treaty One lands. Keeping Up With The Joneses
Welcome back Brook Jones! Former Rotarian Brook Jones is re-joining RCWW! After a several years hiatus, we welcome back Brook with open arms.
If you don't remember, Brook is a multimedia journalist and Free Lance Photographer for the Winnipeg Free Press.
Brook attended today's meeting and caught up with some of his past Rotarian friends. Great to have you back Brook!

November 6 Program - Speaker Jennifer Hanson
Kelly introduced our speaker, Jennifer Hansen. Kelly said that he and Jennifer have become friends over the last few years and have worked together in fundraising and refugee sponsorship. Jennifer was the anthem singer for the Jets 1.0 hockey club in the 90’s.
Jennifer said that she was born and grew up in Flin Flon as the youngest of 7 children. Her father worked in the mine and her mother was a nurse. When she turned 18 she left for Winnipeg to pursue her singing career. Her sister had come to Winnipeg earlier so the connection her sister had helped her.
She met her husband at a Jets game, and they moved to Atlanta to pursue his engineering career. In 2017 they moved back to Winnipeg - Jennifer said that while Atlanta had many good qualities, she never felt at home there.
Jennifer related a few embarrassing/funny stories regarding singing in appropriate songs at a fund raiser and forgetting the French words to Oh Canada when singing the anthem at an Atlanta Thrashers game.
Jennifer is very involved in volunteering and helping refugee groups, saying that what you get back is usually more than you give. She is still in contact with a Syrian family she helped in 2017.

RCWW Recruitment Begins - Oct./Nov.
Summer is out of the way and before the Holiday rush, RCWW has launched its fall 2025 recruitment campaign. With the upgrade in our web & social media presence, a lot of club activity ongoing, we have a story to tell and an opportunity to increase our club membership.
Beginning the week of October 20, our new ad campaign was launched across social media platforms. We've had some early success with lead generation and are now in the process of evaluating the potential candidates and hopefully welcoming some new members soon!
If you know anyone whom you think would be a good candidate, please don't hesitate to let them know we're interested in talking to them about becoming a member of RCWW.
Our ads will continue until through the 3rd week of November.

Family of Rotary
Terry said that he met Raman Talwar recently. Ramon had cataract surgery in spring and in between the surgeries he had a car accident. Apparently, he stopped in time to avoid hitting the car in front of him but was rear ended and pushed into the car ahead of him. He was not severely injured but had some problem with his shoulder. He is getting physio therapy for his shoulder but these appointments are around noon on Thursdays s this has prevented him from coming to meetings. He hopes to start attending again in the next few weeks.
