The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person, are held on Treaty One lands. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Inuit, Metis, and First Nations Peoples and their cultures and rights.
We recognize that the clean water we are drinking is sourced from the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.
April 30 Meeting Program
Our speaker today was Peter Chabursky who is the president of ICC Canada-Ukraine and a Rotary member.
We had a hybrid meeting with our speaker talking to us remotely while showing slides of the project.
ICC Canada-Ukraine was formed in Calgary in June 2025 to address needs in Ukraine because of the war. There are about 1100 Rotary members in Ukraine with about 60 clubs.
An appeal was made to Canadian Rotary Clubs and many donated to the cause including our club.
So far 50 to 70 generators have been distributed to daycares, schools and clinics and displacement centers. Peter said that so far fuel for the generators remains available and because so much electrical infrastructure has been destroyed the generators are critical.
The generators have been sourced from various European countries and deliveries are organized by Rotary Clubs in Ukraine.
Peter said there are many needs, especially medical equipment and funding continues to be required.
Bob thanked Peter for his presentation.

Thought For The Day
Bob’s words of wisdom.
My mother used to tell me “if you don’t ask you don’t get”. My mother would not have described this with words like: “opportunities, help, and rewards often require proactive communication to be achieved”, but she intuitively knew that that is what it meant. And she would not have known that the motivational saying “if you don’t ask you don’t get” is widely attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.
Editor's note: If you don't ask for the ChickenFest sale, you won't get the sale!
