Land Acknowledgement

The Rotary Club of Winnipeg West acknowledges that our meetings, held virtually or in-person,  are held on Treaty One lands.  We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Inuit, Metis, and First Nations Peoples and their cultures and rights.

We recognize that the clean water we are drinking is sourced from the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation on Treaty Three lands.

Today's Program - The Mexican Connection - Jack Peterson

Our speaker was our member, Jack Peterson. Jack spends his winters in Manzanillo, Mexico and has become very involved with 2 of the Rotary Clubs; The Manzanillo Club & the Chapala Sunrise club.

The Manzanillo Club’s main project is supporting the Casa Hogar orphanage. This orphanage was started as a food program for orphans in 1994 and has evolved into an orphanage that offers multiple programs. The dance program is at a professional level, and the dance troupe has toured the world.

The recent hurricane has damaged the orphanage’s buildings, and they are asking for funds to make repairs.

The Chapala Sunrise Club’s main project is the Blue School that offers programing for special needs children. Jack said that this area of Mexico has problem with youth kidney cancer and the club together with funding from other clubs has set up a dialysis clinic.

Our club has supported the programs of these Mexican Clubs for many years, and Jack wanted us to be aware that the support is much appreciated.

Thought(s) For The Day - Bob's Words of Wisdom

When the milk is spilt there are two kinds of people.  One says: let’s clean this up.  The other says:  whose fault is this.

As a bonus ??? …. Bob tries his hand at writing a limerick:

Our club has a super e-mag

Editor Bruce says it’s no rag

It has some wit

And a little bulls**t

Watch for it in your in-bag
